Tottenham head coach believes Aston Villa red card didn’t change the game much
According to Football London, Tottenham Hotspur boss says John McGinn’s red card was not really the turning point in the game against Aston Villa. Ange Postecoglou was addressing the media after the 0-4 win when he was asked — The red card seemed to be a key moment in the game, what did you make of it? Ange responded:
“I don’t think it was a key moment. I thought we were well in control at 2-0 up. Obviously it made the game a bit easier for us in terms of territory but I thought we were well in the ascendancy.”
The Spurs boss also added that McGinn’s challenge was the result of the constant pressure Tottenham were putting on the opposition. Postecoglou also doesn’t believe the Aston Villa captain was intentional in hurting Udogie with the reckless challenge.
The hosts were reduced to 10 men in the 65th minute. However, Tottenham were already leading by two goals courtesy of James Maddison and Brennan Johnson. They added two more in the injury time via Heung-min Son and Timo Werner.
The battle for the fourth
Aston Villa has surprised the Premier League this season with their emergence. The club now sits fourth, making the UCL qualification a daunting task for Ange Postecoglou and his squad.
The loss at home against the north Londoners has closed the gap to two points. Unfortunately for Aston Villa, Tottenham have a game in hand. The N17 residents can move up a position, knocking Aston Villa down to fourth, if they secure the victory in the next game.
Spurs face 10th-placed Fulham in the next fixture, while Aston Villa will face a relatively tougher opponent, West Ham. There are 10 more games left (11 for Tottenham) for the curtains to fall for the season.
