Pundit believes selling Hugo Lloris has worked in Tottenham Hotspur’s favour
BBC pundit and former Tottenham Hotspur player Garth Crooks talks about the positive side of Hugo Lloris‘ exit, according to BBC. Crooks picks his ‘Team of the Week’ after every matchday. He had Guglielmo Vicario between the posts this week while speaking about the former Tottenham shot-stopper. Crooks says:
“I’ve said on a numerous occasions the best thing they did was to get rid of keeper Hugo Lloris – and it should have happened years ago.”
The former Premier League centre-forward believes Vicario’s appointment has been fruitful for the north Londoners and this change should have happened sooner. He also referred to Vicario as a ‘top-class keeper’, who has saved the team several points.
The Italian goalkeeper arrived at Spurs at the start of this season from Empoli. Ange Postecoglou backed him despite keeping just seven clean sheets in Serie A last season. He has been phenomenal for the Lilywhites ever since.
Lived long enough to become a villain?
Garth Crooks’ words about their cult hero might have stung many Tottenham fans. Hugo Lloris was an imposing figure not just at Spurs but in world football. The World Cup winner France stayed in north London for eleven seasons, wearing the captain’s armband for the majority period.
Lloris left Tottenham for LAFC in January but lost his place in the squad long back. The former Tottenham skipper’s last game was an abrupt one where he left the field injured at half-time. Not to forget that the Frenchman conceded five within the first 21 minutes.
A series of injuries, especially in the second half of the 22/23 season brought an unexpected turn to Lloris’ Spurs career. Despite being the player with the third-most appearances in the club’s history, Lloris left the club without the farewell he deserved.
