Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is pleased with Radu Dragusin performance vs Aston Villa
According to UK media outlet The Standard, Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou lauded Radu Dragusin for stepping up to the occasion. The Romanian defender entered the pitch shortly after the half-time break to replace the injured Micky van de Ven.
The 41 minutes against Aston Villa is the most game time Dragusin has received ever since he arrived. Tottenham’s January signing has previously registered 5′ (Man United), 2′ (Brentford), and 1′ (Everton) while merely warming the bench in three instances.
The inexperienced (in Premier League) defender did a fine job replacing the mighty Micky van de Ven, earning praise from his boss. Ange said:
“Great for Radu [Dragusin] to come in, his first significant game-time in a big game and I thought he handled it really well.”
While the Dutchman’s hamstring injury seems to be worrisome, Dragusin’s performance has provided the fans with relief. The gravity of the situation is yet to be revealed by the club.
Waste of talent?
Micky van de Ven was sidelined for more than two months after picking up a hamstring injury in November. His absence left a massive void at the heart of Tottenham’s defence. The unfortunate event was followed by Cristian Romero’s suspension and later injury.
The unprecedented event shook the Aussie manager who turned to his part-timers for help. Even though the Lilywhites got through the tough times with little scars, Postecoglou has already taken steps to prepare the team should such a situation arise.
We saw a glimpse of that strategy against Aston Villa when Dragusin gracefully handled the responsibility left by Micky. However, it remains unfortunate for the former Serie A player. Radu Dragusin has been reduced to a backup option from being one of the most important players at Genoa.

The 22-year-old must be frustrated with his situation at the club considering his calibre. Ange must find a way to keep his players happy, should he wish to promote a calm environment in the dressing room.
