Cliff Jones congratulates Heung-min Son upon equalling a Tottenham club record
Tottenham Hotspur’s official Instagram handle posts a heartfelt moment shared between two club legends. Spurs legend Cliff Jones congratulated the current captain Heung-min Son on equalling his goal-scoring record (159). The duo share the fifth place in the club’s all-time top scorers across all competitions.
Sonny achieved the feat in his 14th season with the club. The feat came in injury time when Son made it 0-3 for the away team in a crucial fixture against Villa. It was also his 117th Premier League goal, only behind Harry Kane’s 213.
Whereas, Cliff Jones is a revered winger in the history books of Tottenham. He played for the north Londoners for a decade, scoring 159 goals across all competitions in the process. However, the trophy count sets the two apart.
Jones was an integral part of Bill Nicholson’s dominant team in the early 1960s. He has won multiple accolades with the Lilywhites, including the 1960/61 FA Cup and First Division double.
The rising Son
The South Korean forward achieved another milestone in his career. He is just 15 goals behind Martin Chivers to secure the fourth position and 49 behind the third. Although the latter milestones seem far-fetched, there is no doubt the Spurs skipper is already considered a legend.
The sudden departures of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris handed the responsibility of a leader and a senior figure on Son’s shoulders. Needless to say, he has done a fine job handling the pressure and performing.
The South Korea international is the club’s top goalscorer in the Premier League. The team is also thriving like never before under his leadership. Coming up big once again, Sonny was the Man of the Match against Aston Villa.
