Dejan Kulusevski talks about Tottenham transfer and torrid time at Juventus
Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski has poured his heart out to fans recently in a letter that he wrote about his professional life. He admits that his career at Juventus was taking a toll on him mentally and physically which is when he made the shift to Tottenham. The Swede also thanks his father in the process for being a “superhero” for him.
While it wasn’t a big deal for him to tell his story, but the need to share overcame his reluctance. He said that barely six months into Juventus, he found himself struggling to hold onto the team, especially when he was on the receiving end of vehement criticism. Kuluveski also mentioned that no matter how much you try, those things have an impact on you. Here is what he had to say, via the Players Tribune
“You feel terrible, because you have given your life to play this game, training as hard as you can and you end up watching players play in your position that aren’t even wingers. Honestly, I felt embarrassed, even worthless. Some people began saying I wasn’t good enough, that I was too slow. And it affects you, 100%. It’s normal, it’s human. When you begin to believe them, that’s the devil right there.”
Kulusevski, for The Players Tribune
He mentions in the letter that he was visibly weak and unhappy at Juventus. It was something that his family and his girlfriend could see very obviously. It was after this intervention that he called his manager and asked him if things could be changed. Thus, he entered Tottenham where he finally felt a sense of satisfaction.
What Tottenham has done for Deki is unmatched
Once he finishes narrating the rollercoaster that his professional trajectory has been, Deki becomes more comfortable giving credit to Spurs for his work. There is obvious gratefulness in his tone for Ange Postecoglou, which is a recurring theme in most Tottenham players in recent times. The Australian coach is obviously doing something right.
What is different about Ange as a coach, is that he believes in you. This is something that Deki was seeking in a team after his self esteem took a severe hit. Juventus was costing him heavily, and Spurs has turned that around for him, something he doesn’t tire of mentioning. While Ange still speaks of tactics and strategy, he also emphasises on natural strengths and losing on one’s own terms.
“The thing about Ange is that he is brave, and he also makes you brave.” This is what the Swede had to say.

It is worth noting that Ange Postecoglou has been instrumental in making sure that Dejan Kulusevski plays like a winner. While Tottenham play to win, like all other clubs, they are also not afraid of losing under a coach like Postecoglou. However, in recent times, the possibility of losing has been slimming down.
