Tottenham Hotspur’s Radu Dragusin compared to Giorgio Chiellini
Tottenham Hotspur amid injury concerns in defence brought in defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa in a deal worth £26.7 million despite late attempts from Bayern Munich to hijack the signatures of the Romania international from under Daniel Levy’s nose.
Ange Postecoglou was forced to play full-backs in the central defensive role owing to injuries and suspensions in the ongoing campaign and the incoming of the 21-year-old provides for such muddles along the way. Understandably, it would be difficult to accumulate game time under your belt when the duo of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are contending in front of you, such has been the case for Radu Dragusin as he has only aggregated 49 minutes since moving to N17.
It helps in a way though, the 21-year-old has just swapped Italian football with English and he can take this time to adapt and be ready when he is called up.
While many Tottenham faithful didn’t know Radu Dragusin, he was held very highly by Fabio Paratici who was Tottenham’s former managing director. According to Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic, Paratici always saw glimpses of Giorgio Chiellini in young Radu.
“The player Dragusin looks up to the most is not Chivu or Vidic, but Giorgio Chiellini, who was the rock of Juventus’ defence when Dragusin arrived there as a teenager. Fabio Paratici always thought Dragusin had something of Chiellini about him, in his pure defensive instincts and his commitment to improve. When Dragusin arrived at Juventus, Chiellini took him under his wing and still continues to message him encouragement and advice”
