Tottenham star Micky van de Ven says Mile Jedinak is a ‘top guy’
According to Football London (H/T Optus Sport YouTube channel), Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven lauds coaching staff and former EPL star Mile Jedinak. Jedinak retired from football not long ago by spending the twilight year of his career in England with Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
The former Australian defensive midfielder hung his boots in 2019. He then turned his focus on coaching, starting with Aston Villa’s youth academy. Mile Jedinak joined his fellow countryman Ange Postecoglou in north London at the start of the ongoing season, serving as the set pieces and organisation coach.
Micky van de Ven was in conversation with Optus Sport’s Mark Schwarzer regarding Tottenham’s style of play. The Dutchman explained the club’s school of thought and appreciated Jedinak’s contribution. He said:
“Mile is a top guy, of course, he had a great career. He was also the captain for Australia but in our team, he’s also really important with the set pieces, with also every day on the pitch he’s keeping us sharp and he keeps us ready every day. Off the pitch he’s a really nice guy, he’s a top guy.”
The new style of play
During the interview, van de Ven spoke in detail about his club’s much-lauded (also criticized) high line of play. The 22-year-old centre-back said the coach trains the defenders to play high up the pitch, leaving a considerable gap between the back four and Guglielmo Vicario.
He also said how it often leaves the fans tensed. Micky van de Ven backed his coach’s strategy by highlighting the back four’s command over pace. To highlight it better, van de Ven became the fastest player in Premier League history a few weeks ago.
The blood, sweat and tears dropped at the training ground are proving fruitful for the Lilywhites as they are currently one of the most formidable attacking teams in England.
