Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag eyes Top-Four upset, Spurs and Aston Villa in the Mix
Tottenham Hotspur are breathing down Aston Villa’s neck for sneaking into the top four and in turn, qualifying for the Champions League for the upcoming campaign.
Ange Postecoglou’s men were considered favourites to claim the top-four spot following that emphatic win against Aston Villa last week although the loss against Fulham means Spurs will continue chasing the fourth spot.
While Tottenham are chasing fortunes for the next campaign, they can also play an integral role in deciding fortunes at Manchester United.
Following the Red Devils’ dramatic 4-3 win against Liverpool on Sunday in the FA Cup last eight, Man United manager Erik ten Hag namechecked Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa as the Dutch boss eyes causing a fourth position upset.
Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford is still in the air and if Tottenham stops Manchester United from securing a top-four finish via-a-vis Champions League football qualification complemented by the failure to win the FA Cup, the former Ajax man might have to start boxing up his office.
Albeit focusing on preparation for their FA Cup fixture, ten Hag still had time to look over the Premier League results. United boss highlighted his happiness that Spurs were beaten by Fulham while West Ham earned a draw to Villa in the post-match press conference.
“I am very proud of the run we are in,” said Ten Hag.
“We know we still have to catch up because we are, of course, happy with the loss of Spurs. Villa dropped points.
“We are happy with being in a semi-final, but we have to keep going. The progress is there, from January on in every game we are scoring. We are getting better and defending better.”

The battle for that fourth position could go down to the wire with only ten games due for the season to call curtains. While Aston Villa have been leading fairly all season, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will make an interesting trio for the battle to follow.
