Tottenham Hotspur veteran Ben Davies talks about retirement.
In a recent interview with ESPN, Tottenham defender Ben Davies has opened up about Ange Postecoglou, retirement and the Premier League. Even though Gabriele Marcotti has been a reporter who tends to get the players to be honest quite often, this comes as a vulnerable conversation from Davies’ end.
While the 31-year-old player has no plans to retire any time soon given his love for the game, he has been planning his retirement for a while. Davies has, however, always been a player who goes above and beyond. Not only does he play for Tottenham and Wales, he also finds time for multiple other activities along with having a bit of fun.
He got his degree in Business Economics while being a full-time professional footballer at the age of 26, and is now working towards a Master’s degree in Sports Business via the PFA or the Professional Footballers’ Association. This is extremely impressive for a player of his magnitude.
What exactly is Davies planning to do post-retirement?
Currently, it seems like Ben Davies has a few areas that he is dabbling with. While studying is always something he has been interested in (much to people’s surprise), he is also interested in coaching. He recently went to the under-13s Tottenham games and realised he enjoyed speaking to the kids quite a lot.
“I’m one of those guys who likes to plan for all eventualities. I thought a good use of my time in the afternoon would be to get my head in some books, mainly math and economics. [But] there’s a joy in realising that you can speak to kids and they hang on to your every word and you can actually give them some advice that might really help.”

We thus see that he has been planning ahead for a long time. While one thinks that he might make good use of his business degrees, it is evident that keeping him away from the field is tough. It is likely that we might see Ben Davies being a coach, and for Tottenham itself, at some point in the future.

Ben Davies has always defied expectations. Be it because of his self-confessed “nerdy” side as a footballer, or through his game. But one thing is certain, which is that he is brilliant. Whatever the path he chooses, we know that his fans will be supporting him, and that he will put his best foot forward.
