Ange Postecoglou pleased with Timo Werner and the impact he has had at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur signed Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig at the beginning of January. He was expected to serve as a backup to the centre-forward role, but has gone on to be much more for Spurs.
The German international has made a terrific impact on the left flank since he swapped Germany for England earlier this year. He was used in a similar role by RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose in Leipzig. Werner can not only impact the offensive side of the game but also portray his work rate with his presses and defensive covers.
Werner has slotted seamlessly into Ange Postecoglou’s side and seems at home at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He has four goal contributions in the Premier League with identical goals and assists (i.e., two) in six starts.
From Loanee to Key Player – Spurs’ option to sign him permanently
The former Chelsea forward made an impact in Tottenham’s win against Luton Town at the weekend; he played a significant part in both Spurs goals. He pressured Issa Kabore into an own goal from Brennan Johnson’s cross, and his ball into the box was turned into a match-winning assist by the Welshman.
Postecoglou spoke about the impact that the 28-year-old has made since arriving in North London. The Australian managers insisted that Timo has not only made an impact in each of his games but also improved his understanding of the game.
Ange Postecoglou, speaking in his post-match press conference (via. The Standard),
“It’s fair to say he’s made an impact in every game,” Postecoglou said of Werner.
“Yeah, he’d probably like a couple more goals, but at the same time, he’s an important part of our structure, and I thought he was really good on the weekend. He has been in the last few games, but I do think there’s more improvement in him as he understands our game more.”

Spurs have an option to sign Timo Werner on a permanent deal, and with the impact that he has had, the German international could be a bargain of an arrival if Daniel Levy & Co. were to take that option up.
