Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou in a recent interview spoke about Pape Matar Sarr and the caliber he has to be a top player.

The Australian manager has done a brilliant job since taking charge of Tottenham Hotspur. He took charge of the club in the summer and has ensured that the club has progressed beyond years during his stay at the club. The 58-year-old has taken the team from a lagging big club to one of the most exciting clubs in Europe.

Additionally, during his time at the club, he was without a sporting director, and he lost Harry Kane just into pre-season. However, the club is now well-placed and is looking better with each passing day.

Though he revamped the roster and brought in some top players to his disposal, Ange Postecoglou has also ensured he brings the best out of the youngsters in Spurs books.

One of those is Pape Matar Sarr, who was having a difficult time last season and was on the fringes. He has been a key player in Tottenham’s pursuit of the top four this season.

To date, the 21-year-old has made 42 appearances for the Lilywhites, including 27 Premier League outings this season, of which he started twenty-two from the get-go. As long as he continues to impress, the youngster is in line to make several more appearances for the club.

From fringes to future star: Pape Matar Sarr flourishes under Postecoglou

Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s visit to St. James Park, Ange Postecoglou was singing praises of Pope Sarr.

“Pape has a super energy about him. Every day he trains with a smile on his face, but he works damn hard,” the Tottenham gaffer said, speaking to Football.London.

“I think he’s a really exciting footballer. He’s one of these midfielders you need these days; he’s very dynamic, and he covers the ground really well, both defensively and offensively.

“He gets into the box; he’s scored a couple of goals for us this year. His technical ability is strong, and he’s a good ball carrier as well, and he’s still young. He’s another one for whom I feel there is so much growth in all aspects. I just really like his general demeanour. He feels like he’s been blessed to have this opportunity, and he’s going to do everything to make the most of it.

“It’s great to have him as part of the group.” He’s very popular within the group because of his nature, but he’s a hell of a footballer. I’ve got a lot of time for Pape, and he’s another one where there’s just a lot of growth there from what I see.”

The 21-year-old has had such a massive impact in the ongoing campaign, so much so that ESPN has ranked him one of the world’s top 39 young players. They placed the Spurs midfield maestro ahead of Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo and Chelsea’s Malo Gusto.
