Newcastle outclass Tottenham in 4-0 rout
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou admitted that Newcastle United were better than Spurs yesterday.
Newcastle United thrashed Tottenham Hotspur at St. James Park yesterday. This is the second time in a row that the Toons have humiliated the Lilywhites in their territory.
Spurs went into the game tagged favourites as they looked to strengthen their traditional top-four spot, although, at the end of the gruesome ninety minutes at the Tyneside, the hosts ended up in the sixth position while reigniting their push for the possibility of bringing Champions League football to The Magpies.
It was an Alexander Isak brace that helped the hosts dominate over Spurs as Eddie Howe’s side clinched a 4-0 win yesterday.
With 50 points from 32 games, Newcastle United are unbeaten at home since January and have climbed to sixth place in the standings, trailing 10 points to Tottenham Hotspur, who slipped down to fifth place owing to their underwhelming goal difference after yesterday’s game.
For the travelling fans, it was a tough commute back home. Watching your team with high expectations, putting in hours of travel and sinking the cost of friends and family time to watch your beloved Spurs only for them to put in such a disastrous performance. Newcastle United were better than Tottenham yesterday in all aspects of the game, and if we just consider yesterday’s fixture to be decisive of where both clubs are, the hosts look miles ahead.
Postecoglou admits defeat as Newcastle United outplay Tottenham in fierce clash
Ange Postecoglou, speaking in his post-match press conference, admitted that the Magpies were better and his team didn’t show any levels near them. Speaking after the game to TNT Sports, the Tottenham boss said (via. BBC):
“I thought Newcastle were really good today. We just didn’t get to any levels that would allow us to get a grip on the game.”
