Postecoglou sheds light on why Hojbjerg is discontent at Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou spoken about midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and how he has not featured in as many games for the club this season. The Australian gaffer recently acknowledged the 28-year-old’s lack of minutes at the Lilywhites since he took charge of the club while also intending to praise him for his professionalism and availability.
The North Londoners signed Hojbjerg in 2020 in a £15 million move from Southampton, though as of now it looks like his stay in the capital is coming to an end.
The Danish midfielder has featured in 30 Premier League games this season, although he has started only six of those and accumulated only about a thousand minutes of top-tier football under his belt.
As his contract runs out in the summer of 2025, Daniel Levy & Co. will be looking to move him on to ensure that the club doesn’t lose him on a free transfer.
Postecoglou praises professionalism despite reduced role for Hojbjerg
The former Bayern Munich star played for the second half in the North Londoners 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Postecoglou, ahead of the Spurs fixture against Newcastle United later today, was quizzed about Hojbjerg and his influence on Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
“I thought Biss and Pape did well enough in the first half and worked really hard, but I thought for where the game was at and the way Forest were setting up, having Pierre and Rodri in there with their experience, Pierre particularly with his passing range, we could use it to start working and switching the flanks. And it worked well,” said Spurs’ boss (per Football.London).
“Pierre’s been good. He hasn’t started as many games as he’d like, but whenever we’ve needed him, he’s done a good job for us, and from my perspective, we’re in a good place where we have a squad where I can make these changes within games or between games.”

He was on the edge of leaving North London last winter when Atletico Madrid expressed interest, but no deal occurred, and he ended up remaining with the club. Juventus have also attempted to bring the 28-year-old to Turin.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been an excellent servant to Tottenham Hotspur, and he will be looking for pastures beyond North London in the summer, ideally after ensuring a good job at N17 as we complete the season fighting for a customary top four finish.
