Time for a fresh start? Giovani Lo Celso linked with move away from Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, while, per Transfer Insider, Spurs are expected to receive multiple offers for the Argentine in the upcoming transfer window.

Senior journalist and transfer correspondent at Football Insider Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, revealed that clubs across Europe are targeting Lo Celso’s services. O’Rourke acknowledged that the Copa America winner is a quality player who hasn’t found his feet at Tottenham.

Win-Win situation? Lo Celso’s departure could benefit both player and Tottenham

The North Londoners reached an agreement with Real Betis to sign Giovani Lo Celso for a club record-equalling fee of €60 million (£55.3 million) in the summer of 2019. While there were high expectations of having him in the midfield, he couldn’t replicate his form in Spain and soon became a bits-and-parts player at the club. He did have a couple of successful loan spells away from the N17 with Villarreal.

There were expectations that playing under the tutelage of Ange Postecoglou would do Giovani Lo Celso worlds of good and open an opportunity for him to redeem himself at the club. However, he has found minutes hard to come by, having made 19 appearances in all competitions in the ongoing season, registering two goals and two assists.

Lack of playing time under his belt means he wants to call quits and move on to other pastures where he can play regularly.

The 28-year-old has played over 100 games for his current employers and more than half of them for PSG and Villarreal combined. He also has 50 Argentina caps, but Ange Postecoglou has largely neglected his expertise this season.
