Romano throws cold water on Ederson to Spurs move
Tottenham Hotspur ‘appreciate’ Atalanta midfielder Ederson ahead of the summer transfer window, per renowned football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano; however, any deal to bring the 24-year-old to White Hart Lane would be “very, very difficult.”
The North Londoners have been linked with multiple midfielders in the build-up to the summer. It clearly looks like a position that Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy are actively looking for in the market.
Atalanta’s defensive midfielder Ederson has piqued their interest off late, with multiple reports linking the Brazilian, who displayed his potential in the club’s 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield Stadium last week, with a move to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The links with the Lilywhites have intensified since his performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side last week.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT that the current situation at the Italian club will make it “very difficult” for Tottenham to complete the purchase.
Midfield muddle? Tottenham face an uphill battle to sign Ederson from Atalanta
Ederson has been a significant player for Gian Carlo Gasperini in the ongoing campaign as their former striker German Denis describes him as the club’s “most important player.”
For Tottenham, acquiring him comes down to the internal scenario at Atalanta with their midfielders and the transfer market. The Italian giants are poised to lose Teun Koopmeiners in the upcoming window, and the club will not want to lose their two starting midfielders in the same window.
Romano told GIVEMSPORT:
“Ederson is going to be very, very difficult because Atalanta are already expected to sell Teun Koopmeiners in the midfield, and Koopmeiners and Ederson are the two starters for Atalanta. So to sell two crucial players in the same position in the same summer, I think it’s very unlikely.”
“So there is an appreciation, it’s true, that Tottenham appreciate the player, as do many other clubs around Europe. For example, it is the same for Barcelona and other clubs in England. But at the moment, I think it’s going to be difficult to sign the player from Atlanta.”
