Tottenham star Timo Werner finds himself on the receiving end of heat
Jay Bothroyd has never held back when it comes to scathing criticism. This time, Timo Werner is the one who is on the receiving end of Pundit’s alleged bitterness after Tottenham lost to Newcastle. Again, he did not soften the blow.
Even though Timo Werner was lauded initially for his impact on Tottenham, his recent performance says otherwise. As Tottenham loses its place in the top four after skilfully tailing Aston Villa for so long, Werner’s signing seems to be threatened.
Ange Postecoglou needs to think fast if he has plans to sign Werner. Currently, justifying his signing seems to be a bigger problem than winning. However, the loss of Werner can also be an obstacle to Tottenham. For someone who understands their coach so well, Timo Werner’s loss will be a liability.
What the Pundit says about Werner
Werner is guilty of missing some straightforward chances. In the devastating match against Newcastle, the player missed at least two opportunities for goals. This has been a clear pattern for him even during his time at Chelsea.
Bothroyd then went on to say that it is a lack of technique on Werner’s part that is the problem. Speaking to The Optus Sport Football Podcast, Pundit said that Werner’s only contribution is his pace. This indicated that the former Wolves star believes that the player has nothing else to offer.
He even went on a podcast to say the following about Werner:
“I can’t help, but I have to be critical of Timo Werner. I’m sorry, he misses so many good chances. And those chances that he missed, they can change games.Technically, he’s one of the worst players in the Premier League. I’m going to say that, because I honestly believe that. He doesn’t cross the ball well, he hits it as hard as he can across the face of the goal all the time. He never picks anybody out. His finishing is poor. His passing’s poor. And yes, you can say that he’s effective. But then I’m saying, okay, he’s an athlete. In this day and age, I look at him and I say he’s effective because of his athleticism. As he gets older and he loses that athleticism, how effective is he going to be then?”

The criticism from Pundit is a little harsh. Timo Werner has been good for Tottenham ever since he was signed on. He doesn’t lack technique, but maybe his composure and aggression need work. The competition in professional football is indeed cutthroat. However, with the right training, Werner will be back on track.
