Real Betis return on the cards for Tottenham star Giovani Lo Celso
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has been subject to links for a move away from the club this summer, as a return to Real Betis is on the cards.
The North Londoners signed Lo Celso from Real Betis for a club-record-equaling fee of €60 million (£55.3 million) in the summer of 2019. There were ample expectations from the Argentine midfielder when he signed for Spurs, although he has not been able to replicate his performances in English football.
Tottenham aided the former PSG midfielder to eventually take up Eriksen’s throne at the club, although it has not gone as per initial expectations for all parties, and it looks like Gio’s time at the club could be at its conclusion following the end of the ongoing campaign.
Lo Celso’s transfer back to Betis conditional
To add fuel to rumors, Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo dropped a hint on Thursday about the possibility of the 28-year-old returning to Benito Villamarín Stadium.
“He is a player who already showed his worth at Betis, who is now doing so with Argentina, and who is complementary to Fekir; one should not be a substitute for the other,” Manu Fajardo said.
While Spanish publication AS relays his comments while insisting on added conditions that Betis would have to comply with to land Giovani Lo Celso’s signatures.
According to AS, the transfer will be ‘nearly impossible’ if Los Verdiblancos fail to qualify for Europe next season. At the time of writing, they are ranked eighth in the La Liga standings, five points behind sixth-place Real Sociedad.
