AS Roma seeking to trump Tottenham Hotspur to Timo Werner
Tottenham Hotspur are set with a decision to make around whether to acquire Timo Werner on a permanent transfer as summer nears, and Serie A giants AS Roma are waiting to pounce on any opportunity if the North Londoners do not go ahead to take up the option on his contract, per Palermo Calcio.
The Lilywhites signed the former Chelsea ace on loan from RB Leipzig in the January window. The German international has been impressive in his short time at White Hart Lane, so much so that his performances for Tottenham have raised his stock elsewhere.
Werner has been a consistent presence in the final third for Ange Postecoglou and has racked up a few goal contributions to show for it. He has scored a couple of goals and given up three assists in twelve appearances for the Lilywhites.
However, his presence has been more than just goals, as he works hard on and off the ball. Werner is fast to track back as well as the first to put his hands up to press relentlessly. The 28-year-old has seamlessly fitted into Postecoglou’s style of play.
Serie A beckons? Roma lurk as Tottenham mull Werner’s Future
Tottenham have a £15 million option in his current deal that brought him to N17, which is a cheap fee considering what he has been doing since donning the Spurs badge. While Tottenham decides whether to take up the option, other teams are seeking an understanding of their outlook.
AS Roma are poised to make a move for Timo Werner if the North Londoners opt not to sign him on a permanent transfer. This comes in the wake of the Italian giants opting against making Romelu Lukaku’s deal permanent. Lukaku is on loan at Roma from Spurs league rivals Chelsea. Instead, they are contemplating a move for another former Chelsea forward.
