Academy stars held hostage? Levy faces dilemma as homegrown rules restrict Tottenham sell-off

Tottenham Hotspur will be forced to keep hold of academy starlets Troy Parrott and Oliver Skipp, as their departure could leave the North Londoners susceptible to failing to meet the Premier League’s homegrown quota heading into the upcoming season, per GIVEMESPORT.

Irrespective of the certainty of playing in the Champions League, Spurs gaffer Ange Postecoglou has started drawing the transfer blueprints with the window fast-approaching.

Academy stars held hostage? Levy faces dilemma as homegrown rules restrict Tottenham sell-off.
Spurs gaffer Ange Postecoglou is already planning the transfer blueprints for the summer transfer window.

However, the English top-tier rules state that a minimum of eight homegrown players need to be included in the squad every season, which has a domino effect on whether the former Celtic boss can cash in on the academy talent at his disposal in the likes of Parrott and Skipp.

Per GMS, the club is seriously considering selling Parrott in the summer transfer window, as they would not only have to comply with the PL homegrown quota but also ensure club-trained players are in the squad if they qualify for the Champions League.

Troy Parrott shines on loan as impressive spell in Eredivisie could spark transfer tug-of-war

Parrott has been enjoying an impressive loan away from the Lilywhites. He has registered eight goals and four assists in 25 appearances in all competitions with Eredivisie outfit Excelsior in the ongoing campaign. This has resulted in multiple suitors lining up for his signatures if Daniel Levy decides to cash in on him.

GMS further states that Parrott has attracted suitors from clubs in multiple European countries, viz., Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, for a potential transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, the Premier League rules may put an end to any opportunities to seek new pastures for Parrott.
