From Wonderkid to Castaway, Tottenham to cut ties with underperforming Bryan Gil?
Tottenham Hotspur ace Bryan Gil has been subject to links away from White Hart Lane as we near the summer transfer window. The Spaniard is not expected to stay at Spurs beyond the end of the ongoing campaign and is expected to enter the transfer market after an experience at N17, which was more shadows than lights in the English top tier.
The 23-year-old joined the North Londoners from Spanish club Sevilla in a widely anticipated deal. Spurs signed him in a £21 million move, complemented by Erik Lamela heading the other way to Seville. While there was a high financial burden from the transfer, Tottenham acquiring the Sily wingers was seen as a bargain deal by many.
However, the transfer has not lived up to the headlines it carried. Following three underwhelming years at Hotspur Way, Gil has been limited to only 42 appearances at N17 while providing only two assists and failing to find the back of the net while donning the Tottenham shirt. He was also sent back to Spain on loan for a couple of seasons.
Loan no more as Bryan Gil seeks permanent exit
At the start of the ongoing campaign, many felt that he could rejuvenate his time in London under Spurs new boss Ange. However, the Cadiz-born star has been limited to five minutes of playing time in Tottenham’s last 12 games. This comes as a tremendously poor background for a 23-year-old highly-rated star who is still looking to hone his skills.
This is considered to be the final nail in the coffin, as Daniel Levy wants to pull the plug on his stay at Tottenham. As Estadio Deportivo points out, the Spaniard is looking for only a permanent exit from North London and would rather stay at the club beyond the summer than entertain another loan move. While there have been interests in possible loan exits, that is to be ruled out for young Gil.
