Tottenham honcho Daniel Levy keeps 'huge fee' aside to bring in a marquee player in the winter transfer window.

Transfer market misstep? Tottenham could lose out on guaranteed funds for fringe players

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to cash in on their fringe players this summer as they look to reinvest the money to increase the ceiling of the squad. However, the North Londoners could miss out on a guaranteed £21.3m as Djed Spence and Tanguy Ndombele are set to return to White Hart Lane following the conclusion of the season, per Football. London.

The club has done some excellent business since Ange Postecoglou took charge at N17. The Lilywhites would be looking to replicate that in the upcoming summer transfer window as Spurs make strides on the pitch.

Ndombele & Spence return? Loan deals leave Spurs facing potential financial loss

While incomings are always looked upon as a priority, it is equally important to ensure sufficient funds are recouped by selling unwanted players, which also frees up the wage bill. The club has done a brilliant job recently with exits as well. Davinson Sanchez is leaving permanently in the summer for Süper Lig club Galatasaray, complemented by Harry Winks moving to Leicester City in the Championship. The good work followed in January as Eric Dier left for Germany and is now flourishing at Bayern Munich.

As things stand, five more players are on the radar to be sold this summer. All of Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Japhet Tanganga, Sergio Reguilon, and Tanguy Ndombele are linked with a Tottenham Hotspur Stadium exit.

While Daniel Levy would be looking to sell them, the club missed an opportunity to credit £21.3 million to their bank accounts.

Tanguy Ndombele is currently playing his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray after having previously failed to produce exemplary performances on loans with former club Lyon and Serie A giants Napoli. The Turkish club holds a €15 million (£12.8 million) option in their deal with the Lilywhites to acquire Ndombele on a permanent transfer.

However, given the troubles he has been having in Istanbul, complemented by his limited appearances, a permanent move to Galatasaray appears improbable as of now. Ndombele will be in the final year of his Spurs deal at the beginning of July.

Alongside Ndombele’s potential departure, Serie A giants Genoa have an option in their loan agreement with the North Londoners to sign Spence for £8.5 million this summer. However, Genoa is evaluating whether they will sign the Spurs loanee on a permanent basis.

If the options in Ndombele and Spence’s options are not triggered, the Lilywhites risk losing out on up to £21.3 million in agreements already on the table this summer and will be back to square one in that situation as they look to move on players who are not part of Postecoglou’s long-term plans.
