N17 braces for high-stakes North London Derby

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for the North London Derby as Arsenal are set to visit White Hart Lane this weekend. This fixture is not just about one team competing for the title race while the other grinds for a top-four finish; a derby is much more than that—just ask Liverpool.

There are bragging rights at stake, emotions at stake, and, most importantly, processes and projects at stake. This is a high-drama derby, one that a neutral would lick their hands for while supporters of both clubs would passionately root for their colour.

Massive pressure emits from North London this weekend, with two clubs with a deep history of rivalry rubbing shoulders. However, the pressure should be more on one than on the other, insists Football. London Tottenham Hotspur correspondents speaking on the Gold and Guest podcast

Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest insist that the pressure to come through with three points will be more on Arsenal than on Tottenham at this weekend’s North London Derby. They insist that the title race, complemented by their recent loss against Aston Villa, would make this a must-win game for the Reds from North London.

The pair also insisted that the fans would come in as a critical part of the game, as Tottenham fans would be aiming to make their presence felt.

Speaking on the Gold and Guest Tottenham podcast, the pair said:

“Absolutely. Is there more pressure on Arsenal? I was wondering that this morning.
I think they might be. I’d probably say so just because they’re going for the Premier League title. And it is the business end of the season.”

“So this is where league titles are won and lost and where Champions League places are won and lost. Yeah, maybe so. As things stand, Spurs are six points behind Aston Villa. Two games in hand are still to play. So yeah, I’d probably put more pressure on Arsenal.”

“I think so. But what I would say is that there will be a real sense, and I hope, among the players, the Spurs players, and the Spurs fans, that it’s really irritating that Arsenal are coming to the Spurs stadium to play for a potential title. Yeah, that should be the case; that should be us.”

“That’s what we should be aiming for—that we shouldn’t be kind of, you know, us trying to get a fourth spot with this result and you guys trying to get the title with it. That should, if anything should spur them on, that should. And I’m hoping the atmosphere will be brilliant as well on[…]”

While they insist the pressure is more on Arsenal, Tottenham have to nail a traditional top-four finish, and the pressure would equally be on Ange and his squad to deliver that to the fans following what has been a brilliant season at the N17.
