A learning curve for Tottenham as they look ahead
Arsenal got better than Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby yesterday, as the Gunners headed back to the N5 with three points. While it comes as a big blow in the Lilywhites’ pursuit of finishing in the traditional top four, the squad and the fans need to hold their heads high and move on to the next games, which is what defender Cristian Romero believes as well.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was all vocal in the second half following the two goals scored by the hosts, thanks to Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min (pen) slotting it home. However, it was too little, too late, as an exemplary first-half display by Arsenal ensured that the game was heading their way. Mikel Arteta’s side scored three goals in the first half as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (OG), Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz found themselves on target.
Cristian Romero urges Spurs to regroup after Derby defeat despite stellar performance
While the fixture had a lot of learning for Tottenham, central defender Cristian Romero played an outstanding game.
The Argentine defender’s display was more than just a goal. He showed excellent qualities and showcased the reasons why he is rated as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. The 26-year-old came close to scoring a couple of times in the first half, one with a header that hit the post, and that was followed by another effort that sailed just over the bar.
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou lauded Cristian Romero’s performance as ‘outstanding’ after the game:
“Outstanding, World Cup winner mentality. I’ve got to get what’s in him into some of the others.”
Cuti Romero took to Instagram after the game, sending a message of regrouping and focusing on the next games. The 26-year-old’s Instagram post following the North London Derby had the caption,
“Head up and carry on; this is what it’s all about sometimes. I am more than ever with this team, @spursofficial. 🤍 we will work and finish this season in the best way. Thank you for always being fans. All together.”
