Jamie O’Hara questions Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive frailties vs Arsenal
Mikel Arteta named an unchanged side in their last game against Chelsea as Arsenal geared up to take Tottenham Hotspur, which proved to be enough for the Gunners to take all three points from White Hart Lane. It proved to be a derby that lived up to its potential, as it concluded with high drama and emotion.
It was a game of two halves as Arsenal put a stronghold on the game with their first-half performance as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (OG), Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz found themselves on target. Tottenham, in the second half, came back fighting with a couple of goals from Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min (pen); however, the fightback was too little, too late after the first-half damage.
Jamie O’Hara slams Tottenham’s defensive display
Despite some positive aspects of Ange Postecoglou’s performance, former Arsenal academy graduate Jamie O’Hara, who later played for Spurs, had a scathing assessment of Tottenham’s display in the recent North London Derby.
The player-turned-pundit didn’t mince words, asserting that the Lilywhites defended set pieces poorly, likening their performance to that of a pub team. He highlighted Arsenal’s success in scoring two of their three goals from corners as evidence of Tottenham’s defensive shortcomings.
O’Hara specifically criticized Wales international Ben Davies for his defensive positioning against Bukayo Saka, particularly in the left-back position. His remarks underscored the frustration felt by fans and pundits alike regarding Tottenham’s defensive lapses during the match.
Jamie O’Hara took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to put through his opinion on Tottenham’s woeful performance. He wrote: “Shocking defensively again; set pieces are killing us; we’re like a pub team, and Davies has to show Saka his right school boy stuff; he should have had a penalty, but this game is over; Arsenal too good at the back; fuming on the sky right now 😡#Spurs.”
