Tottenham urged to learn from first-half mistakes after North London Derby loss to Arsenal
Arsenal took the opportunity to take home three points from White Hart Lane following their win against Tottenham Hotspur in what was a highly anticipated North London Derby, and while the hosts have a few things to figure out, the performance of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is one of them.
Mikel Arteta’s side came through firing all guns ablaze as they took a three-goal lead in the first half with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (OG), Bukayo Saka, and Kai Havertz on target. However, it was a story of two halves, as the Lilywhites came back fighting in the second half with two goals from Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min (pen); however, the fightback was too little, too late after the first-half damage.
The performance of Guglielmo Vicario was a talking point in the first North London Derby of the season, and it should be the same for yesterday’s display as well, albeit for different reasons.
Vicario sends the message that Tottenham must improve despite second-half fightback
The Italian goalkeeper had one of the best performances with ball-at-his-feet by a goalkeeper in a Tottenham shirt when Spurs visited the Emirates Stadium. He could soak up the pressure, was smart with his releases, and troubled Arsenal all around. However, yesterday, his performance caused Tottenham a few problems.
Sometimes the angle of the pass was missing, while for the others he failed to recognize the pressing threat to the receiving players.
However, it should not be about pointing fingers but rather about taking responsibility and moving on to the final run-in of the season. That is what the 27-year-old also insists on in his message following the conclusion of the game. The Italian took to Instagram with the caption, “We made life hard for ourselves in the first half. Good reaction from the lads in the second half. We can and have to do better. 🤍🧤”
