Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League dream fade after Chelsea loss
Champions League hopefuls Tottenham Hotspur incurred their third defeat on the trot as a struggling Chelsea side got better of the Lilywhites at Stamford Bridge yesterday. This defeat comes on the back of successive defeats against Newcastle United and Arsenal, which leaves Spurs in a tricky position for a top four finish in the 2024–25 campaign.
The North Londoners were pitted against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa for a race to finish in the top four. However, after picking up zero points after a possible nine, Ange Postecoglou‘s side are now trailing by seven points to the fourth-placed Villans, and with only four games to play in the ongoing campaign, a chance for a top-four finish looks bleak.
Ange Postecoglou’s side only accumulated three shots on target at the Bridge yesterday, as goals from Trevoh Chalobah and Nikolas Jackson sealed the win for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Glenn Hoddle slams Tottenham’s performance as top-four hopes dwindle
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and manager Glenn Hoddle was quick to point out the underwhelming display by Spurs yesterday. He acknowledged how the game was frustrating to watch owing to the club’s performances and, in his opinion, how the side could not make compelling passes into the final third in yesterday’s game.
Speaking to the Premier League Official Website, Glenn Hoddle said:
“It was frustrating to watch that performance. Spurs were very lacklustre; they couldn’t pass the ball, and in the final third, they gave the ball away and had no end product. It was a poor, poor performance.”
