Limited playing time pushes Lo Celso towards Tottenham exit
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso could be looking to seek pastures beyond White Hart Lane this summer, and the Argentinian midfielder could “push for an exit,” according to former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton.
The Copa America winner signed for Tottenham in a deal that was widely looked around as a coup for Spurs; however, things have not worked out for all parties, and it looks like the former PSG midfielder could call curtains on his time in London.
Despite high expectations from fans that Ange Postecoglou’s arrival would revitalize his Tottenham career, however, Giovani Lo Celso has found himself relegated to a bit-part role this season. Gio has only started four games in the ongoing campaign and has aggregated only 487 minutes in 20 appearances in the Premier League this season.
Lack of playing time will aid in his decision to leave the North Londoners, despite a few reports last week indicating Tottenham’s willingness to sit down on the negotiating table for a possible contract extension.
Alan Hutton fears Lo Celso feels like an outsider at N17 which prompts the exit reports
While Alan Hutton acknowledges the intimidation of staying put at White Hart Lane owing to the project that the club has entered under Ange Postecoglou, he insists that the feeling of being an outsider at Spurs will push him to move on. In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, the former Spurs defender said:
“He might push for an exit.
“I think everybody wants to play football week in and week out, and I genuinely just don’t see that happening for him, so as a player, is it basically going to come down to what are your options?
“If he’s got options to go elsewhere where he feels that he’s going to get that game time that’s needed, then I feel that’s something that he’ll look at. Yes, Tottenham, under the new manager, do play an exciting brand of football, and they have changed their whole philosophy and mentality, and he’ll probably want to be a part of that.
“But if you’re not regularly playing, you feel like an outsider, and I think that’s what he feels at the moment. He doesn’t get the game time that he wants, so if it were me, I would be assessing my options.
“Yes, it would be good to know that Tottenham want you there, but he seems to be more of a squad player than a starter there, so I would be looking at all my options come the summer.”
