Hojbjerg’s time at Spurs nearing an end as Atletico Madrid move beckons

Atletico Madrid are looking to rekindle their interest in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as the North Londoners are prepared to fortify negotiations leading to the Denmark international exit as we head into the summer transfer window, per Mundo Deportivo.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane for some time now, owing to a lack of playing time under his belt since Ange Postecoglou took over the reins at North London. He has enjoyed spells integral to Spurs midfield under previous managers; however, the 28-year-old has failed to do so under the Australian boss.

The Danish midfielder has featured in 33 Premier League games this season, although he has started only seven of those and accumulated only about elven-hundred minutes of top-tier football under his belt.

The Lilywhites signed Hojbjerg in 2020 from Southampton in a £15 million move, though as of now it looks like his stay in the capital is calling curtains. As his contract at White Hart Lane runs out in the summer of 2025, Daniel Levy & Co. will be looking to move him on to ensure that the club doesn’t lose him on a free transfer.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has been pushing their pursuit to bring the former Bayern Munich midfielder to the Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano. Tottenham are ready to let go of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s for a reported fee of €15 million, which would be way less than what Levy asked when Atletico came knocking last time around.

There have been suggestions that the 28-year-old was on the verge of joining the Madrid Reds in January; however, no transfers materialized in the winter. However, Atletico Madrid may end up facing competition from Juventus for Hojbjerg’s signature this time around.
