Ange Postecoglou confirms that Richarlison has not recovered from a knock
Tottenham Hotspur have been on the receiving end of injuries lately, with multiple players putting their hands up towards the business end of the season, and Lilywhites center-forward Richarlison is one of them.
The Brazilian international has been accommodating injury concerns for a while, with Ange Postecoglou forced to play skipper Son in the number nine position. While it was initially intended to be a precaution, the injury soon turned into an inevitable situation.
It looked like the former Everton star had been over his injury concerns when he returned for the North Londoners from the bench against Arsenal; however, that was not the case, as he picked up another injury in training.
Forced rotation? Richarlison injury forces Son back up
Tottenham boss, ahead of the Spurs game against Burnley, confirmed Richy’s absence for the fixture, citing a calf injury he picked up before the game. He was quizzed about the new injury following the North Londoners triumph against the Clarets, where the Australian boss revealed how the Brazilian star hobbled off in training and how the scans showed cause for concern.
Speaking after Tottenham’s 2-1 win against Burnley, Ange Postecoglou said (via Football.London):
“It was unfortunate. I know I did the press conference yesterday, but it was literally the last kick of the game, and I saw him hobble off, so I assumed it was nothing serious. Then it didn’t get any better later on in the evening, and he was sent for a scan on his calf, and I still don’t know the results of that, to be honest, but watching him today, he was still hobbling about.”
Richarlison enjoyed a spectacular start to the season and was almost at his unplayable best before injuries started becoming a problem. That could also be one of the concerns prompting Tottenham to consider selling him in the upcoming summer window.
