Spurs triumph against Burnley thanks to unlikely stars

Tottenham Hotspur finally found some belief in their quest for Champions League qualification following their win against Burnley yesterday. The North Londoners have struggled to put two and two together lately as their performances have earned high criticism following a streak of four consecutive losses.

However, champions teams are defined by how they come back in the midst of adversity, and that is what Spurs have done. While it could be too little or too late for Spurs, Ange Postecoglou would not give up until it’s mathematically impossible.

The North Londoners had two unlikely goal scorers in Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven as Tottenham beat Burnley with a 2-1 score line.

Pedro Porro has been the undisputed right-back for Spurs since he moved to the N17 in the winter of last year. He has been known for his offensive antics, and that is what Porro replicated yesterday by scoring the opener for the North Londoners as they took three points against Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.

The former Sporting Lisbon star managed to impress former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood following his display against Burnley. Tim went no further to acknowledge the offensive ability of Porro and the fact that Ange has recognized that and used him to his strengths.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Tim Sherwood said:

“This is Pedro Porro at his best driving forward,” said Sherwood. “Trying to thicken up the midfield, recognising when to go forward, very dynamic and he smashes that past Muric before he can see it.

“That is him at his best. You ask him to defend and you will see a different outcome. This is what he is good at.

“Ange Postecoglou, credit to him, he has recognised that. Him, and Udogie, who is out injured at the moment, they are very good at that. Thickening up the midfield and playing on the front foot. It’s exactly where the manager wants them.”
