Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings vs Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur took on Manchester City in a game that was a must-win for both sides involved. Pep Guardiola and his men couldn’t afford to slip up tonight as their title hopes depended on it.
They played like an obsessed bunch against a Tottenham team that was matching them throughout the 90 minutes. The Spurs’ efforts tonight were praiseworthy.
Even after Erling Haaland gave Man City the lead, the Spurs kept fighting and were competitive in the end. But the Blues just had too much quality for the Lilywhites.
Where the Spurs often lacked that final pass or that final touch, Pep Guardiola and his men didn’t. In the end, it was the Blues who took home all three points and now stand on top of the Premier League table.
Tottenham on the other hand have lost all their chances of making it into the top four this season. Let’s take a closer look at how the Tottenham players fared individually against Man City.
Here are TTLB’s ratings on how the Tottenham players fared in the game against Manchester City
Guglielmo Vicario: 7/10
Vicario was having a wonderful night at the office until some shoddy work from his defensive line ruined the game for him. His distribution was pristine and the Lilywhites would’ve easily lost by more if it wasn’t for Vicario.
Pedro Porro: 5/10
Porro was having a decent game right until the ending moments of the game. A major lapse in judgement saw the defender give a penalty away during the 90th minute of the game. Haaland converted and Tottenham’s UCL hopes were laid to rest.
Cristian Romero: 7/10
Was easily Tottenham’s best defender tonight, Romero was ready to do all the work for his team tonight, it’s a shame he couldn’t contribute on the score sheet despite being a threat throughout the game.
Micky van de Ven: 6/10
A quiet performance for Micky Van de Ven tonight. The youngster seemed out of sorts and it poorly affected his offensive game. However, Van de Ven did have a decent game on the defensive side of things.
Radu Dragusin: 7/10
Moved the ball around well and made some crucial tackles throughout the game. Dragusin positioned himself bell to keep out a Man City shit that looked like a certain goal.
Rodrigo Bentancur: 5/10
Bentancur struggled to have any kind of impact on the game today, his presence was nowhere to be felt in the middle line, and as a result, Ange took him off early in the second half.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg: 5/10
Hojbjerg made a crucial mistake by failing to mark Kevin De Bruyne in the lead-up to Erling Haaland’s goal. His mistake might’ve lost his team the chance to play in the UCL next season.
James Maddison: 7.5/10
Maddison’s excellent creativity went unrewarded tonight as his team failed to register themselves on the score sheet. The 25-year-old was a constant threat to City and created four chances for his team. It’s a shame the Lilywhites failed to convert even one.
Pape Matar Sarr: 5/10
An average outing for Pape Matar Sarr, not once did he look like a threat on attack, the youngster seemed almost intimidated by the game tonight and put on an extremely safe display.
Brennan Johnson: 6/10
Brennan Johnson had nothing to contribute to the Lilywhites’ offense tonight. Apart from a few threatening runs all the young forward did was run around for 90 minutes.
Son Heung-Min: 6/10
Son Heung-Min had a golden chance to tie the game during the 86th minute. However, Stefan Ortega stood up to Son’s challenge and made a crucial save to deny the skipper. Son might’ve just dropped the chance to stop City from winning four league titles in a row.
Substitutes
Dejan Kulusevski: 5/10
Kulusevski was brilliant at penetrating City’s defence from the minute he came on. However, he lacked the final touch and failed to score despite being square with the goal on two separate occasions.
