James Maddison gives latest fitness update on himself after Tottenham vs Manchester City
James Maddison and his return to form is absolutely crucial for Tottenham Hotspur. Since his ankle injury back in November, his absence has been felt keenly on the pitch. It’s no coincidence that our first dip in form began around the time of his injury.
The 27-year-old has endured a challenging run of form since his return in January, but his recent performances indicate that he’s getting back to his best. His impact in the recent win against Burnley, where he set up the winning goal, and his improved display against Manchester City despite the defeat, highlight his importance to the team. Here is what he told the club’s media team after the match against Pep Guardiola’s side:
“I feel good,”
“Last couple of games I felt good. I think it will do me the world of good that I have played almost 90 minutes in both the last two games.”
“But I always want to improve on numbers. Goals, assists, everything. I’ve had a long injury so have missed a lot of games. But I feel good. I feel fit.”
“Off the back of today I was disappointed for the team more than anything, I felt like I did alright. There was spaces and pockets of space out there and I felt like we were getting success with the system, so quite frustrating actually.”
Now, with Maddison claiming he feels ‘good’ and back to full fitness, it’s a massive boost for Spurs ahead of their last-day trip to Sheffield United. Having a fit and firing Maddison in the squad can make a world of difference in our final push for the season. UCL, even though we cannot qualify, UEL is something we can surely push for, and a win will just strengthen that push.
Go on, James!
Having him back not only beefs up our midfield but also adds some flair and a goal-scoring threat. In 29 games this season, he has scored four goals and has eight assists. That’s not too bad, no?
With Maddison back in the mix, we’ve got a better shot at finishing the season on a high. His presence on the pitch can lift the team and help us grind out results in tough matches.
The lad himself would be very hungry for more. He’s itching to bag more goals and assists, to make up for lost time from that injury. Shows real character, that does. While any player returning from injury comes at “just the right time“, it couldn’t get any truer in Madders’ case. He’s bloody top-class and will surely come back from his setback stronger than ever.
