Timo Werner not a part of the preliminary Germany squad for Euro 2024
On loan from RB Leipzig Tottenham star Timo Werner has missed out on the German preliminary squad for the 2024 Euros. Julian Naglesmann’s side has some notable exclusions including Werner himself, Matt Hummels, Leon Goretzka, Julian Brandt, Karim Adeyemi, Niklas Sule and Serge Gnabry.
That means Pascal Gross and Kai Havertz are the only members of the team who play in the Premier League. Werner’s exclusion, even though sad for the 28-year-old striker, is somewhat understandable.
Across the entire campaign, the first half at RB Leipzig and second on loan at Spurs, he has only managed to score four goals and has only as many assists in 28 appearances. While recent performances have been somewhat meritable, in the grand scheme of things, there are players who are in better form and probably deserve a selection in the squad. Preliminary, of course so don’t count Werner out YET. Here is the squad as per Fabrizio Romano via Twitter.
As Romano has already mentioned, one more player [or more] will be left out of the squad before the start of the Euros. There’s still a chance for Werner to fight his way back into contention and replace someone who is in there. He’s got the talent, no doubt about it. He just needs to find that spark again and start banging in the goals like we know he can.
When it comes to Germany’s chances at the Euros, you’ve gotta say they’re in with a pretty good shot. They’re hosting the bloomin’ tournament, for crying out loud! Having the home advantage can make all the difference, especially with the fans roaring them on from the stands.
But back to Werner. It’s not all doom and gloom, mate. He’s just gotta keep his head down, keep grafting, and who knows? Maybe he’ll get that call-up after all. Until then, he’s just gotta stay focused on the job at hand and keep putting in the hard yards on the pitch. There’s only so much he can do about it from this point on, to be honest. Speaking of his statistics for Germany, he has 57 caps for Die Mannschaft and 24 goals for his national team.

As for Tottenham, well, it’s a bit disappointing not to see one of our own in the mix for the Euros. Let’s hope for the other boys to represent their respective nations on the grandest of stages.
