Next big thing? Van de Ven earns Euro 2024 chance with Netherlands
Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has announced his provisional squad for the upcoming Euro Championship as Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky Van De Ven finds a place among the players representing the Dutch side this summer.
Van de Ven has been really impressive this season since he moved to North London in a £43 million (€50 million) move from Wolfsburg last summer. He has established himself as an integral part of Ange Postecoglou‘s project at N17 and has been integral in assuring the club’s fight for a possible Champions League place deep into the season.
His strides in the Premier League have earned him comparisons to Arsenal defender William Saliba and have put him into a world-class conversation. The 23-year-old has been likened to possibly the best centre-back in the English top tier this season, which should show strong roots for the future Tottenham are building around him.
As Spurs build a future around their defensive star, the Netherlands are about to experience how good Micky van de Ven can be as he travels to EURO’s with the Holland team. It should be a learning experience for the former Wolfsburg man, as he will share the dressing room with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake, Matthijs De Ligt, and Stefan De Vrij.
Following is the provisional squad for the Netherlands for Euro 2024:
Goalkeepers: Justin Bijlow, Mark Flekken, Nick Olij, and Bart Verbruggen
Defenders: Nathan Ake, Virgil van Dijk, Daley Blind, Denzel Dumfries, Jeremie Frimpong, Lutsharel Geertruida, Matthijs De Ligt, Ian Maatsen, Quinten Timber, Micky Van De Ven, Stefan De Vrij
Midfielders: Ryan Gravenberch, Frenkie De Jong, Teum Koopmeiners, Tijjani Reijnders, Marten De Roon, Jerdy Schouten, Xavi Simons, Joey Veerman, and Gini Wijnaldum
Forward: Steven Bergwijn, Brian Brobbey, Memphis Depay, Cody Gakpo, Donyell Malen, and Wout Weghorst
