A huge transfer blow for Tottenham as long-term target confirms Juventus interest

Italian reporter Alfredo Pedulla has handed Tottenham Hotspur a blow by disclosing that Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori has turned down approaches from two foreign teams and made it clear that he wants to stay in Serie A by most likely joining Juventus.

The 21-year-old has demonstrated this season that he is equally capable of playing at left back and centre back. These two positions are where the Lilywhites need reinforcements. Hence, it is easy to see why the Spurs are interested in Calafiori.

According to Italian publications CalcioMercato, Tottenham have fallen behind in the race for the Italian defender and that Juventus are now in pole position to land the player.

The Bianconeri are at a huge advantage since the defender has informed both clubs that he wants to play in Serie A. The young sensation has simply cleared out others from the race to sign him.

Actually, it’s been claimed that Bologna is holding to their demands of €25 million plus bonuses, and Juventus has started negotiations over a contract for the Italy Under-21 international.

Since making a reappearance, Calafiori has been doing amazingly well for his club. In his first season, he played in 33 games and established himself in Bologna’s first team.

A huge blow for Spurs to lose such a talent

The left-footed center-back has performed admirably in the core of the defence, and his efforts have not gone unappreciated. The 22-year-old would certainly prove to be a wonderful asset for any team he joins.

It will be exciting to see which centre-back Tottenham will now give attention to, given that Calafiori currently seems determined to stay in Serie A and that Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo look inclined to join Newcastle.
