Postecoglou targets Gallagher as Tottenham look to bolster midfield
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, and former player-turned-pundit Jason Cundy insists that the supporters will go insane if Spurs sign the 24-year-old this summer.
The Lilywhites are looking at a massive summer transfer overhaul, and Daniel Levy is expected to make ceiling-raising signings in the off-season to provide the needed arsenal to Ange Postecoglou and ensure that the club continues to progress under the Australian gaffer. The former Celtic coach has reportedly made the former Derby midfielder his prime target, as he insists that Conor would fit seamlessly into his style of play.
The North Londoners have been tracking Cobham graduate Conor Gallagher for some time, with initial links to sign the 24-year-old established last summer, and Spurs are looking to conclude their mere interest in the England international’s services by amplifying a concrete offer this summer in a bid to lure the talented midfielder away from West London.
Conor Gallagher has been impressive at Stamford Bridge this season, and a transfer to London rivals seems distant; however, the Blues will be forced to consider a potential sale owing to their PSR compliance problems. Spurs could pounce on securing his services as his contract with the Blues runs out at the end of next season, and as of now, there have not been any concrete indications suggesting a potential contract extension with his current employers. He would be open to looking for a place to call home this summer.
Gallagher to Spurs? Fans Will Go “Insane” Says Cundy
Jason Cundy, a former Chelsea midfielder, is claiming that Conor Gallagher would be ideal for Ange Postecoglou’s system. Cundy suggests that Chelsea fans would be furious if the club sold the England international to Tottenham, particularly considering their recent progress under the same manager.
Cundy, speaking on TalkSPORT (via. HITC), said:
“He (Conor Gallagher) is not going to get into Arsenal or City. What Conor brings is absolute enthusiasm; his work rate and hard work are unrivalled. I think you could perhaps say, in terms of that high press, that in terms of what he gives you, I don’t think there are too many hard-working midfielders in the country than him.”
“His energy levels are obscene. He keeps going. So, someone who wants, anyone who wants to play a high press, I can see him; Newcastle are interested; Spurs are interested; especially the way Postecoglou wants to play, I can see that. The Chelsea fans will go insane, by the way, if he goes to Spurs.”
