Impressed on loan, Timo Werner extends stay at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur have announced an agreement with RB Leipzig to bring Timo Werner back to White Hart Lane this summer.
Timo Werner joined the North Londoners in the winter transfer window on a loan deal for the rest of the season. His acquisition split the Spurs fan base owing to Werner’s previous performances in England, i.e., his struggles at Chelsea; however, he fit into Ange Postecoglou‘s team seamlessly. His performances helped the Lilywhites take the fight to the Champions League places until the final run-in of the season.
Werner back for another year at Spurs
The German international predominantly featured on the left flank as opposed to his preferred center-forward role, much like how he operated for Marco Rose at Leipzig before his loan move.
While Timo Werner picked up a hamstring injury against Arsenal and was eventually ruled out of the season, his impact was greatly spoken about among the Lilywhites faithful, with many hoping that was not the end of his story at Spurs.
The 28-year-old has now joined Tottenham Hotspur for another season, on loan, with a subordinate option to buy than the last loan deal. Werner made fourteen appearances in all competitions for the Spurs last season, for an aggregate of two goals and three assists. Per ESPN, the deal will have a €10 million ($10.86 million) option to make the transfer permanent.
In Werner, Spurs now not only have someone who is already accustomed to Ange’s style of play but also a player whose versatility comes in handy across the front line.
