Bargain basement bomber? Tottenham look to land Ivan Toney on the cheap
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in a marquee striker in the upcoming summer transfer window as the North Londoners are in dire need of a new number nine, as they have yet to replace Harry Kane, who left N17 for Bayern Munich last summer. The Kane-shaped void, complemented by Richarlison linked with a potential exit, opens doors for Spurs to sign a new centre forward this summer.
The Lilywhites have been linked with some of the most exciting forwards around Europe, and the latest reports suggest that Spurs may be looking to fortify their attempts with the Premier League striker. Per Football Insider, Tottenham could bring Brentford ace Ivan Toney to White Hart Lane for a “surprise” fee of only £40 million this summer.
Will he be the one? Spurs eye Toney as Kane’s successor
Tottenham correspondent Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, insists that his current employers are ready to let the England international move on once the transfer window reopens later this month.
There have been reports propounding a potential £100 million fee that Brentford were looking for a transfer of their star player to a top-tier club. O’Rourke suggests that the fee is significantly lower now, and a bid of £40 million could be enough to sign the 28-year-old this summer.
Toney has been on the Lilywhites’ radar for a while now, with first links to the former Newcastle United ace appearing last summer, and the club’s interest has only intensified since the premier rumours, with the current fee suggesting a deal might be imminent.
