Tottenham eyeing Scottish midfielder Daniel Kelly, who is attracting attention from several clubs
According to the Daily Record, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to enter the race for the Scottish youngster Daniel Kelly, who is playing for Celtic and is grabbing attention from several elite clubs, including Manchester United.
As negotiations for a new contract with the Hoops continue, the English powerhouses are keeping tabs on the teenager’s development. Kelly will be eligible to speak with prospective suitors in July, when he enters the last six months of his contract.
It has been a while since a player rose through the Celtic development system to establish himself as a mainstay in the starting lineup. If Kelly’s growth proceeds as planned, he seems to have what it takes to go to that level.
The Hotspur, who have been following Kelly for several years, are interested in adding him to their under-23 and youth teams at the London club. The Australian boss, Ange Postecoglou, thinks the teenager would grow into a potential key player for the Spurs.
Along with Italian Serie A teams Bologna and recently promoted Como, other clubs on the continent are expressing a great interest in the youngster’s services, including German champions Bayer Leverkusen, who have made formal contact.
The 18-year-old already made an outstanding contribution to Celtic’s victories, including a 7-1 win over Dundee last season, in which Daniel Kelly scored his debut goal for the Celtic senior team.
If Kelly decides to leave Scotland, he could earn up to £9,000 per week. If he leaves this summer, clubs will just have to pay the Hoops £490,000 in training compensation.
