Spurs miss out on Lloyd Kelly?
Tottenham Hotspur are set to lose the race in pursuit of Premier League defender Lloyd Kelly as Newcastle United intensify their pursuit of the 25-year-old.
The North Londoners are in dire need of a new defender who can be deployed at the heart of the defence following the defensive vows at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal in the recently concluded season. The Australian gaffer had to play with fullbacks at the heart of defence at some point in the season, and he would want to not repeat similar circumstances in the upcoming season. Therefore, it is important for Spurs to acquire a reliable central defender who would not only provide stability to the backline but also offer tactical flexibility and depth, allowing Postecoglou to field a more balanced and organized defensive setup.
The Lilywhites did sign Radu Dragusin in the winter transfer window; however, they are expected to sign one more player in the CB position this summer.
Lloyd Kelly nears Newcastle move, Tottenham out of the running
Spurs expressed interest in bringing Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer this summer, following his contract situation at Bournemouth. He is someone who has been integral to Andoni Iraola’s defensive setup at Vitality Stadium, and the fact that Tottenham could land him on with a penny of transfer fees seemed like an intriguing prospect.
However, Newcastle United have jumped as favorites to land Lloyd Kelly this summer, and they are ‘very confident’ in landing the 25-year-old, and the deal could possibly be finalized as early as Friday, per Football Insider.
