Chelsea are close to signing Tottenham target for £50m
As per Football Insider, Tottenham may lose their primary target, Ivan Toney, in the upcoming summer transfer window, which starts in the middle of June. Chelsea are in front of the race to sign the English striker from Brentford for £50m.
Ange Postecoglou, who is planning major changes in the team, should rethink his plans for the upcoming season. After a decent campaign, the Aussie coach was set to sign some big names in the summer transfer window, including the Brentford striker, who was also one of the primary options for his process.
In the recent Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Chelsea is one step ahead of signing Toney in the race as his price drops to £50m.
Toney joined Brentford for just £5m in 2020 before helping them achieve promotion and establish themselves in the Premier League. The English striker scored 20 goals in the 2022–2023 season; however, he missed the first half of the previous campaign after receiving an eight-month ban for violating FA gambling rules.
Toney remains a man in demand and has ofte shown the uncanny ability to influence results. Bringing in such a clinical striker will certainly boost Topttenham’s frontline. He has a contract until June 2025 with the West London side.
Both the London clubs that target an out-and-out striker won’t get a better option than Toney. His ability to coordinate the players on the front line and his experience in the English league makes him a favourite for the clubs.
