Tottenham have extended the contract of Joe Rodon to ensure a decent transfer fee

According to Football. London, Tottenham Hotspur has opted to prolong the contract of Joe Rodon, even though it is anticipated that his future will be elsewhere. The decision was made to activate the clause in his contract, extending his deal to the maximum five years allowed. The player was reportedly informed of this last month. Rodon, who had a successful season away from the club, is likely to attract significant interest this summer.

This additional year ensures that Tottenham will receive a transfer fee if Rodon leaves as anticipated, given that he is not included in Ange Postecoglou’s plans for the upcoming season. Postecoglou stated his intention to recruit another centre-back to compete with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Radu Dragusin towards the end of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur has extended Joe Rodon’s contract to 2025.

When Rodon was recruited in the summer of 2020, the club announced his contract to last until 2025. However, according to Football. London, similar to Sessegnon and Tanganga, his contract actually expired this summer with the provision for an additional year’s extension. Rodon played a pivotal role in Leeds’ defence this season, contributing to their third-place finish with 90 points and their advancement to the Championship playoff final, which they lost to Southampton at Wembley.

Leeds did not possess the opportunity to secure the services of the ex-Swansea player permanently. Given that the Elland Road club will continue in the Championship for another year, it’s uncertain if Leeds will still possess the financial means to acquire Rodon at this juncture.

Following the extension of Rodon’s contract, Tottenham Hotspur aims to capitalize on his successful season by leveraging his transfer to fund the recruitment drive for new players for Postecoglou’s team. Daniel Levy is well renowned for being a tough cookie to negotiate with. The Tottenham Hotspur owner never allows players to leave for a low transfer price let alone on a free transfer.

This contract extension of Joe Rodon is in character for the club to try and extract the highest possible transfer fee for a player who is not even a part of their future plans. A shrewd businessman, Levy always ensures that the club is financially sound with their dealings in the transfer window but can sometimes border on being too stringent in the transfer market.
