Tottenham Hotspurs preparing to bid £40m for Ivan Toney

As per FootballTransfers, Tottenham Hotspur are readying a bid for Brentford striker Ivan Toney. Spurs are preparing a contract offer for the forward, who has been selected for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024. Ange Postecoglou’s team is readying a £40 million bid for Toney, who scored four goals in 17 Premier League matches after serving a suspension that kept him out of the first half of the season.

Tottenham has been searching for a striker to fill the void left by Harry Kane’s departure to Bayern Munich in 2023. Initially, Brentford set an asking price of £100 million for Toney, aiming to deter interest from clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal during the January transfer window.

Recently, it was noted that Toney favours a transfer to Chelsea rather than joining Tottenham. Yet, with Spurs apparently gearing up to initiate talks, it’s uncertain how this will influence the player’s choice. Tottenham’s proactive stance might possibly alter Toney’s inclination, particularly considering the club’s ambitious aspirations for the upcoming season.

Tottenham Hotspur will be eager to secure the signature of Ivan Toney as early as possible. The team has performed well after the departure of Harry Kane but if they are to take the next step and compete for the premier league title then they need to buy a proven striker to lead their forward line. Ivan Toney has a great track record playing in the premier league which will make it easier for him to quickly adapt to his new team.

Also, Tottenham need to avoid a prolonged transfer saga as other clubs including Chelsea have shown interest in the forward which could mean a bidding war. That is not what Daniel Levy will be keen on doing as he prefers to not spend large sums of money on a single player.
