Alan Hutton explains what Tottenham must do to sign the Championship hero
This summer, Tottenham hopes to acquire Archie Grey, a star at Leeds United, in a potential trade with Joe Rodon and the former Spurs defender Alan Hutton reveals the necessary thing for Spurs to sign the Championship star.
Former Spurs defender Alan Hutton said in an exclusive interview with Football Insider that any trade involving Rodon would also need “big cash” in addition to the Welshman.
The 26-year-old Rodon has been on loan at Elland Road for the season, and the team is eager to keep him until his loan expires this summer. Meanwhile, Grey has drawn interest from many European teams after making 52 appearances in his first season at the age of 18.
Despite failing to get a promotion to the Premier League, Leeds is anxious to hang on to its standout academy graduate this summer. Hutton, meanwhile, clarified that Grey is a wonderful match for Ange Postecoglou’s club and that a “big fee” is planned due to his versatility and skill.
Hutton said:
“It would have to be big cash, not just Rodon, I think it would be a lot of money on top of that. He’s had an outstanding season. The guy has played at full-back, played in midfield, played as a number ten, the list goes on.”
“I think he’s only going to get better. He plays with such freedom and it’s refreshing to see. The way Ange plays, that’s perfectly suited to him. He’s comfortable coming inside and taking the ball with his back to play and getting forward with his ability to cross into the box.”
“It’s going to be a big fee, but looking to the future, if they can bring someone like him in now, he could be there for years to come. That would be an brilliant signing for them.”
The former defender thinks Leeds won’t consider a straight-up trade involving Grey and the Welsh defender. The dynamic midfielder will cost Spurs a significant sum of money in addition to the defender.
In addition to playing as an offensive midfielder, Grey can also play as a fullback or central midfielder. Leeds won’t want to let him go easy since he has the potential to become one of the top young players in the nation.
