Ben Davies faces uncertain future at Spurs with potential £25m arrival
Tottenham Hotspur FC defender Ben Davies could “suffer” if the club acquires a £25 million-rated transfer target this summer, per former North Londoners head scout Bryan King, who thinks that the club is readying a move to replace the 31-year-old at White Hart Lane.
The Lilywhites have been subject to links with Stuttgart and Japan defender Hiroki Ito for the upcoming summer window, per The Sun, and his acquisition could spell an end to Ben Davies time at N17. Hiroki Ito has a versatile profile and can play as a central defender as well as in the left-back role.
Changes looming at Spurs?
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou possesses intense knowledge of the Japanese market, having previously managed in the country. He would be aware of the quality of the players hailing from Japan, and Ben Davies isn’t getting any younger. The Tottenham veteran suffered some disappointing outings at the end of his recently concluded campaign, especially his performance against Bukayo Saka (and Arsenal), which could prompt Postecoglou to explore options for rejuvenating his position on the roster.
Hiroki Ito would be available for anywhere between £21.5 and £25 million this summer, and Bryan King, speaking in an interview with Tottenham News, insists that Davies would already be looking over his shoulder at Hotspur Way. King said:
“Postecoglou had Japanese players at Celtic too,” King said.
“The player who would suffer if that deal went through would be Davies. Perhaps this player is being lined up as a replacement for him.”
