Will Spurs break bank for Gibbs-White?
Tottenham Hotspur FC have been linked with Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White for a move in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The North Londoners are set to take advantage of PSR compliance problems at City Ground this summer as they look to bring another marquee signing from Forest this summer. The 24-year-old has incurred another impressive campaign with the West Bridgford-based side, netting five goals and 10 assists in 37 appearances in the English top tier. He has been integral to Nuno Espirito Santo’s bid for survival in the Premier League.
There have been reports suggesting the Lilywhites lead the race for the former Wolves midfielder, with his current employers putting a £40 million price tag on his signatures this summer.
Hutton questions Tottenham’s need owing to a mammoth £40 million price-tag
Former Tottenham defender Alan Hutton suggests that the Forest maestro would be looking to take next steps in his career amid links to White Hart Lane. He does insist that Spurs have no need to spend such mammoth fees for another attacking midfielder this summer; however, he goes on to admit that having MGW at N17 is appealing enough for Levy to do so.
Alan Hutton, speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, said:
“I’m not surprised they’ve put that valuation on him. He’s another player who has had an outstanding season at a club where you thought they would be fighting towards the bottom and they did.
“But he always looked like that go-to guy, like Jack Grealish was at Villa, where we looked to him like go and do something that’s going to get us out of this whole we’re in and he was him. He stood up to the plate and again he will be looking to take his career forward and I think that is probably about right for him at this moment in time. It’s just whether Tottenham need a player in that position at the moment.
“I know he likes to play in that number 10 role where you get the best out of him because he can see a pass or score a goal.
“When James Maddison was injured Spurs did miss that bit of creativity within there. So if they can get another player in there and build for the future, it makes that squad stronger.”
The Tottenham boss is keen to raise the ceiling of the squad, and signing the 24-year-old would help him not only raise the bar but also add quality depth to a player who has suffered injury inconsistencies since last season.
