Ange Postecoglou earmarks Bastien Meupiyou to aid Tottenham Hotspur defensive woes
As per L’Equipe, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has now eyed French club Nantes player Bastien Meupiyou to sign for Lillywhites. The 18-year-old has only appeared once for the main team.
The ‘fearless warrior’ of Nantes, Bastien Meupiyou, is considered one of the young, skilled, defenders for the club. The Frenchman’s journey to the club was through the Nantes academy and he predominantly plays for the Nantes B Team. He has made 18 appearances for the secondary team across all the competitions.
The rapid growth of the player has shocked the French football world, he has also appeared in a Ligue 1 game for Nantes, which was his first professional football appearance, and he ended up receiving a red card in the ninth minute of the game.
The Paris-born Meupiyou was able to grab the attention of several clubs at a young age. The aggressive approach of the player towards the game makes him special, and the Spurs needed him for that. He will be one of the best young defenders in France. The fearless attitude in the backline makes the player unique from others, he has the ability to win the ball from the opposing striker, which impressed Postecoglou.
The 18-year-old can play in the centre-back position and also as a defensive midfielder, which will help the North Londoners in their games. The defender’s contract with the French club is expiring soon, so Postecoglou can take him to N17 at a better price. Postecoglou should give the young lad time to gain experience playing with senior players. If the player rises up to the expected level, it will be an asset for the North Londoners.
