Pierre EMile Hojbjerg backed to quit Tottenham and join Mourinho over Atletico Madrid
Tottenham Hotspur FC midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a Hart Lane exit this summer following struggles to accumulate playing time under his belt.
The North Londoners signed the Danish midfielder in a £15 million transfer from then Premier League side Southampton back in 2020, when Jose Mourinho held the final call at White Hart Lane. While his time at Hotspur Way could be coming to a conclusion as his frustrations grow while sitting on the bench at Spurs, he has enjoyed spells integral to the Lilywhites midfield under previous managers; however, the 28-year-old has failed to do so under the Australian boss.
Atletico or Mourinho’s embrace?
Former Spurs scout Bryan King claims that Hojbjerg could still make “decent money” for Tottenham this summer. This comes following reports of multiple clubs vying for his signatures in the off-season, as Atletico Madrid have rekindled their interest in signing the 28-year-old, per the Daily Mail. On top of the Spanish giants, Jose Mourinho is looking to bring the Euro-bound Dane to Turkey this summer, as Fenerbahçe have already discussed the possibility of a Jose-Pierre reunion.
And Bryan Kind believes that these interests could be crucial, but also suggests that the player would prioritize the Mourinho reunion in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News:
“Hojbjerg has been playing well for Denmark recently. That goes to show what he can do when he is playing in an environment where he is happy.
“He has done reasonably well at Tottenham, but it seems for some reason that Ange Postecoglou doesn’t really fancy him. I think they will get decent money for him.
“His relationship with Mourinho will likely convince him to join Fenerbahçe. Having a manager who believes in you is a massive plus for a player.”

Hojbjerg only has one year on his current deal at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Postecoglou is unlikely to hinder his sale this summer. While a move to Atleti is tempting, can Mourinho work his magic to bring him to Turkey?
