Daniel Levy backed to block Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s Tottenham exit
Tottenham Hotspur FC midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer, with multiple suitors lining up for the Dane’s signature.
The former Bayern Munich midfielder has been linked with a N17 exit owing to his struggles to accumulate minutes under his belt in the recently concluded season.
The North Londoners signed Hojbjerg in 2020 for £15 million following his impressive performances for Southampton when Jose Mourinho was in charge at Hotspur Way. While his time at the club could be coming to a conclusion as his frustrations grow while sitting on the bench at N17, he has enjoyed spells integral to the Lilywhites midfield under previous managers; however, the 28-year-old has failed to do so under the Australian boss.
To put numbers into the impact he has had with the Lilywhites, the Dane midfielder has made 184 appearances wearing the Spurs badge, accumulating ten goals and sixteen assists to show for it. He has been crucial to the club’s midfield in the recent past; however, now is the time to move on, and a move away could help all parties as the club looks to move into a new era under Ange.
Fulham eye Hojbjerg but will Spurs sell to a rival?
However, Premier League side Fulham have been among the potential suitors for his signatures, and former Spurs right-back Alan Hutton thinks the club chairman will hold off selling the 28-year-old to the Cottagers. While he suggests that the North Londoners would be looking for a similar fee for anybody willing to secure their signatures, he thinks that the club would be more willing to do business with foreign clubs.
In an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Hutton said:
“No owner will really want to sell to a rival. It’s kind of through gritted teeth if that ever happens, and I’ve heard that Jose Mourinho is now interested in him as well. He knows the player; could that be something that he’s keen on?
“Of course, they’ll still want the same money, and if it’s not to a rival, then it is even better, so we will see how it pans out.
“I think that could be one that we’ll have to look at because it could be a possibility.”
We saw Levy do something very similar when Harry Kane wanted to leave Tottenham. He held off on any moves that took him to other Premier League clubs, and while Hojbjerg is not as good as Kane, he may have a positive impact on a rival team, which will not sit right with the Spurs chairman.
