Emerson Royal on the outskirts? Tottenham ready to cash-in amidst AC Milan interest
Tottenham Hotspur FC defender Emerson Royal has been subject to links from AC Milan with a move away from White Hart Lane in the summer transfer window as he is set to become one of the outgoings part of the mass exodus planned at N17.
Spurs have progressed in abundance since Ange Postecoglou took charge of the club last summer, and the club is set to undergo a mass exodus this off-season. The Brazilian defender is one of the players set to depart North London this summer.
Tottenham signed Emerson Royal from Spanish giants Barcelona in a £25.8 million deal back in 2021, which at the time was looked at as a highly anticipated deal. However, the 25-year-old has not been able to reproduce his Spanish top-tier form in the Premier League, leading to the Lilywhites eventually considering his probable exit.
New horizons beckon?
The former Real Betis defender has been linked with a move to AC Milan this summer, with the Italian giants holding a strong interest in securing his services to bolster their defensive lineup. They have made their interest formal, as the San Siro-based side has submitted an offer worth €20 million for the Brazilian full-back, per PL Brasil.
Tottenham, at the time, were said to be holding out for a €25 million valuation to part ways with the 25-year-old this summer. The club would want to recoup as much money off his sale as they look to re-enter the transfer market for some marquee signings of their own.
While Royal was an integral part of the Spurs squad for a while since his arrival, he has recently been demoted in a back-up role to Pedro Porro in his natural right-back position. However, Emerson still managed to accumulate 24 appearances in the recently ended season, although the majority of his outings have come in a filler role at left-back and center-back.
As Tottenham are ready to cash in on him, complemented by the strong interest that Milan holds in acquiring his signatures, AC Milan are expected to return with an improved offer to secure the deal.
